Hearts Landing Ranch exists to build community to impact a community by serving foster youth, veterans, families, and victims of crime and human trafficking. HLR offers mental health therapy and learning using experiential, land-based programs. Often people are too ashamed or stuck to sit and talk. With Equine-Assisted Psychotherapy (EAP), we can accomplish in months, what might take years of talk therapy.

You can be a part of reducing addiction and suicide rates in our community!

Your partnership will help Hearts Landing Ranch see more individuals and impact more families who would otherwise not be able to afford Equine-Assisted Psychotherapy (EAP).

EAP is a form of therapy for the treatment of a variety of mental health concerns including anxiety, depression, anger, substance abuse, trauma, PTSD, attachment issues, grief and loss and adjustment disorders.
EAP allows clients to project their feelings, actions, ideologies, and judgments onto the horse(s) which can relieve pressure of the client needing to verbalize and explain their feelings or may lessen the intensity of thinking or talking in an internalizing way. This can be useful if the client has a hard time accepting or talking about something personal or traumatic. EAP can also highlight discrepancies between the client’s words and actions, whether it is due to the client being unaware, putting on a front, or even being manipulative.
EAP allows clients the opportunity to develop awareness of their behavioral patterns and process their emotions as they interact with horses. As prey animals, horses are highly attuned to their environment for their survival. Additionally, they are highly social and communicate almost solely through body language. They pick up on the non-verbal cues we bring into session and respond to them immediately in a non-judgmental way.
EAP uses the mirroring capabilities of horses to show clients how their body language and internal state affect their interactions with others. In order to create connection with the horses, clients must learn to self-regulate, manage their difficult emotions, and change their behaviors. Additionally, watching the reactions and behaviors of the horses offers opportunities for the client to identify metaphors that can provide additional insight about what is going on in their own lives.
Let's look at the ways you can help Hearts Landing Ranch make a difference:

Contribute towards a covered Round Pen: This would help us have more options during sessions happening in inclement weather. This equates to more sessions Year-Round! Additionally, we look forward to an enclosed, quiet, protected space to start the PTSD Riding Program that minimizes distractions and possible triggers. (We've raised $60,000 toward $120,000!) Help us get out of the 104-degree sun and windy rain for more Sessions!

8-week EAP Group Scholarship: $1,400 - Pays for one individual to participate in 8 weeks of group therapy

8-week EAP 1:1 Scholarship: $2,400 - Pays for one individual to participate in 8 weeks of individual therapy

Sponsor a Horse: $967/month, or sponsor an individual monthly service for one or all 10 horses, such as monthly cost of maintaining hooves, or supplements, bedding, hay, veterinary care, etc.

Emergency Medical Fund: Help us build up our safety net for sick or injured horses. Our goal to have an additional $10,000 put away. It seems like a lot, BUT horses are expensive an we have 10. As example, over the summer we spent nearly $3,000 trying to get to the bottom of one of our horses having repeated colic episodes.

Contribute to Capital Fund for Covered Arena and HLR Office & Training Center - "Put a Plaque on it!" Ask about how you could get Corporate or Individual Recognition for helping the building become a reality!

Pull Tags/HLR Wish List: Take a look at the list to see the way to give that fits your unique budget. This may include a one-time gift, a monthly donation or an annual donation. Any amount is appreciated, and helps us reach our goal of being able to offer

A big thank you to our sponsors!
